Attempted suicide sets youth on rampage in Algeria
Algerian police fired tear gas on Sunday to disperse rampaging youths who torched tyres and hurled stones after a young unemployed man set himself on fire.
The incident echoed the self-immolation of a jobless Tunisian graduate in late 2010 whose death set off protests around the country and Arab world.
Residents of the town of Jijel in northern Algeria say the man doused himself with petrol before setting himself on fire and being taken to hospital.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the tense security situation in Algeria.
