Obama visits his troops year on from bin Laden’s death
BARACK OBAMA slipped into Afghanistan on an unannounced visit to the country - in the week which marked a year since Osama bin Laden was killed in a raid on his hideout in Pakistan.
The US President told troops: “The reason America is safe is because of you.”
He told cheering crowds of troops at Bagram Airbase: “The battle is not yet over. There is going to be heartbreak and pain and difficulty ahead. But there is a light on the horizon because of the sacrifices you’ve made.”
President Obama said the agreement signed with the Afghan government would help ensure the transition to a more peaceful future.
