Sainsbury's shows rivals how to shine as it is set to post a profits rise
Sainsbury's will outshine rivals this week with a jump in profits despite the worsening consumer climate.
Chief executive Justin King is expected to say on Wednesday that profits for the year to March rose five per cent to £700million. It will be regarded as a solid performance in an increasingly competitive sector as two of its biggest rivals show signs of strain.
In January, Tesco sent shock waves through the industry with a profits warning amid falling sales. Then on Thursday, Morrisons confirmed Financial Mail's report last week that over the past three months it had suffered its first like-for-like sales drop since the calamitous acquisition of Safeway.
