About us
We report the numbers — and the people behind them.
newsrt is a UK news outlet covering the economy, business, retail and the world of work — written by people who would rather show you the evidence than tell you what to think.
We started newsrt because too much business reporting reads the same whether it is good news or bad, and too little of it explains what a figure actually means for the people it lands on. A change in the inflation rate is a line on a chart in a boardroom and a harder week on a shop floor. We try to report both at once.
What we cover
Our focus is UK business and economic news: the economy and public finances, employment and pay, the high street and retail, supply chains, and the corporate stories that look like numbers on a spreadsheet but feel like people losing shifts. We cover the announcements, but we are more interested in what they mean a month later.
How we work
We prefer evidence to opinion. Where there is a primary source — an ONS release, a company filing, a published dataset — we go to it before we go to the headline written about it. We attribute our sources, we separate reporting from comment, and we say plainly when something is uncertain.
We get things wrong sometimes, like everyone who files on deadline. When we do, we correct it openly rather than quietly. If you think we have made a mistake, tell us and we will look at it.
Who writes here
newsrt is written by journalists who have spent real time in the subjects they cover — in newsrooms, and in the industries they now report on. You can read about them on our Meet the authors page.
